R.L. Mathewson Chronicles

Late Night: Part 1

“Is, like, Eric seeing anyone?” Melissa, their third-rider for the week and the reason that Tara desperately needed to get her hands on some caffeine soon, asked.

Blinking, Tara looked up from the stack of run sheets that she needed to finish before she could make that dream a reality and glanced over at her partner to find him sitting on the other side of the room, glaring at her. When he saw her looking at him, he mouthed, “I. Hate. You,” as his gaze flickered towards the woman who’d set off a psych patient in the back of their ambulance by telling him that Santa Claus wasn’t real.

Beyond hurt, Tara bit back a smile and said, “No, you should go for it.”

Father’s Day

“Am I a joke to you?” Jason demanded as he looked at the small pile of gifts that his children had given him.

“What’s wrong?” Joshua asked, frowning down at the signed Yankees baseball cap that he’d given his father.

“I thought you wanted a new briefcase,” Elizabeth said, gesturing towards the gift she’d given him.

“And you thought I could be bought off?” Jason asked in disgust as he folded his arms over his chest and shook his head in disgust as his children stood next to his bed, looking at a loss at what to do, which only infuriated him more, because they knew damn well what they should have done.

Late Night Drive Part 3

“What are we doing?” Matt asked around a handful of potato chips as he hopped up onto the kitchen counter.

“Waiting,” Reed said, slowly exhaling a shaky breath as he sat there, staring at the closed kitchen door as he drummed his fingertips against the kitchen table until he couldn’t take it any longer.

“Waiting for what?” Matt asked, popping a chip in his mouth with a bored sigh as Reed paced the kitchen, trying not to get his hopes up.

Late Night Drive: Part II

“Why is Reed sending me threatening text messages?” Matt murmured, sounding amused as he read the latest string of text messages that Reed, who she’d liked to point out had been passed out from exhaustion when she’d snuck out, had been sending since they’d left.

“Because he hates you?” Joey suggested, blinking innocently even as she couldn’t help but wonder how she was going to pull this off without Matt finding out what she was doing.

Late Night Drive: Part I

He should probably pretend that he didn’t see her, Matt thought as he watched his sister-in-law stumble her way along the dimly lit driveway and if it hadn’t been two in the morning, he probably would have done just that.

“What are you doing?” Matt asked as he watched Joey stumble over a small twig, righted herself, cleared her throat, and threw a helpless look at her car as she mumbled, “Nothing.”

Game of Thrones Chronicle: Part III

“Shhhh, my show’s about to start,” Jason said as he tossed a handful of peanut butter M&Ms, peanut butter M&Ms because he felt that they went better with Game of Thrones than Reese’s Pieces, as Haley sat there, glaring at the large bastard that was quickly ruining what she’d waited two years for.

“I-I will kill you,”she barely managed to get through the rage that had been building over the past seven weeks since the man that she was seriously considering smothering with a pillow decided that Game of Thrones was his favorite show.

Mother’s Day Done Right

“Daddy, there’s something wrong with Happy,” Mikey whispered urgently as she pulled on his arm.

“What’s going on?” Reese asked, allowing himself to be pulled out of bed as he struggled to wake up and make sense out of what was going on even as he remembered to grab the small white box with a tiny green ribbon tied around it out of his nightstand and left it on his pillow in case his wife woke up while he was gone.

“Please!” Mikey whispered, her voice breaking at the end as she pulled him towards his bedroom door.

Game of Thrones: Part II

“What are you doing?” Jason asked, blinking down at his wife as she…

Well, he wasn’t really sure what she was doing, but he was starting to become somewhat concerned with what all the wiggling was doing to the baby. Sighing, he wrapped his free arm around her and carried her back to the bed. While she glared at him, and god was she fucking cute, he sat back down on the bed and-

“Where the hell are you going?” he couldn’t help but wonder when she ripped the modem out of his hand and stormed off towards their bedroom door only to return two minutes later, looking adorably pissed.

Game of Thrones Chronicle

“You’re dead to me!” she heard her oldest son yell and while that would normally be enough to get her out of bed, but not tonight after she’d waited almost two years for this.

Tonight, she wasn’t going anywhere, not without making sure that Jamie was okay.

She’d hoped that she would find out Jamie’s fate last week with the season premiere, but it had simply been a tease, but tonight, tonight she planned on getting some damn answers. With that in mind, Haley shoved another pillow behind her back, grabbed the bowl of Reese’s Pieces off the nightstand, took a sip of her apple juice and-

“You’re grounded!” her husband yelled, making her sigh in annoyance as her eyes darted to the right and noted the time.

Ten more minutes.

The Plan: Part IV

“Why don’t we get more comfortable?”

“And how would you suggest we do that?” Zoe asked as she reached for Trevor’s belt buckle and pulled it loose.

Chuckling, Trevor toed off his boots and reached back and pulled his shirt off. “I thought we’d put that hot tub to good use,” he suggested with that incredibly sexy smile that still had the power to take her breath away.

“There’s a hot tub?” she asked, smiling as she unsnapped his jeans and reached for his zipper.
